Event Details

Bill Person will teach an Instructor Development class at the NSP Farwest Winter Educational Conference on Sunday March 21, 2010, from 8:00am-4:00pm

Nothing is more important to the success of NSP's education programs than the cadre of hard-working instructors who deliver those programs. The NSP Instructor Development Programs consists of two components that provide training in course management as well as instruction, the Instructor Development course and a mentoring program. The Instructor Development course covers the various areas of instruction and how instructors can apply them to create a positive learning experience for their students. Helps build a strong foundation of educational knowledge for use when planning and delivering lessons. The general information covered in Instructor Development is applicable for all potential NSP instructors, regardless of instructional specialty.

The course examines effective teaching techniques with emphasis on the adult learner evaluation processes. It includes preparation and delivery of two lessons using the "six-pack" format. These classes are cooperative learning experiences. Students will assist one another in preparing to teach NSP classes. The class enables students to support and evaluate one another in preparation, rehearsal and polishing of their class presentations.

You must be registered for the Winter Educational Conference to attend. Please register here and also at http://fwdwinter.eventbrite.com/

Lunch will be provided. Minimum enrollment of three students is required to have the course.

There is no charge for this course, but you should purchase and read before class the course book, "Instructor Development - Training the Adult Learner". This is item #502 in the National Catalog and lists for $19.50 plus shipping.

This course is open to all Farwest Division patrollers. The Instructor Development Course is an elective for the Senior Program and a prerequisite for becoming an instructor in any NSP discipline (Avalanche, Instructor Development, Mountain Travel and Rescue, Outdoor Emergency Care, and Outdoor Emergency Transportation). Please email me by March 15 if you will be attending the course.  If you have any questions regarding this course, you may call me at the number below or e-mail me at any time.

Thank you.
